On 5 March 2009, the Indian government announced a contest to make a symbol for the Indian rupee  Five signs created by Nondita Correa-Mehrotra, Hitesh Padmashali, Shibin KK, Shahrukh J Irani, and D Udaya Kumarhad. The finance minister selected the symbol created by D. Udaya Kumar.Please note the font name is "RuPi foradian" not "Rupee Foradian".

Ø Download this file from here
Ø It is a tif file (Tagged Image File Format)
Ø Double click and install the tif file. Or move the file to C:\Windows\Fonts directory

Ø After successful installation, open any text editor like notepad or MS word. [We opened MS word]

Ø Choose ‘Rupee Foradian’ as your MS Word font. [For different style of rupee symbols, you have to select other rupee fonts].

Ø Now type ‘ ~’ [Tilde] from your keyboard.(some  new keyboards already contain rupee symbol)

Ø Now you can see rupee symbol instead of ‘ ~’ [Tilde] symbol while typing.

Ø If you want to save your rupee symbol in notepad, you have to select encoding as ‘Unicode’ instead of ‘ANSI’ while saving.
